Derby University
A photography course that will be a three year full time degree, all UK applicants are interviewed and all applicants are interviewed with a portfolio of their own work. The tariff score points accepted is: 260, with minimum points required from qualifications with the volume and depth of a level or equivalent to 260 such as BTEC national diploma. The UCAS tariff points are just a guide, the university consider all the information that you include in to your application, your portfolio and how well you do in the interview, and they want to see that you’re enthusiastic and motivated to take the course. Also that you have the potential to benefit from coming to the university. Also key stills (functional skills) level 2 qualifications in application of number and communication are accepted in place of GSCE English and Mathematics. Also if I didn’t do the BTEC level 3 photography at Newcastle College now, it says you can start for a year first (year zero) if you don’t have the appropriate qualifications.
About the course, the course values are that it encourages imaginative and also inventive approaches to photography and supports with all different types of work, including black and white, colour and digital. On the course you will learn through different combinations of lectures, technical workshops, seminars, group critiques, individual tutorials and you get to go on regular gallery visits. Also be able to hear from high profile guest lectures regularly. Another way to gain work experience you can take an optional work placement between stages two and three during which you will also gain an additional qualification – ‘’ the Diploma in Professional Practice.’’
