Tony Wooliscroft - Music Photographer.

TONY WOOLISCROFT

Tony Wooliscroft is a music photographer,  it was held in burslem in stoke-on-trent, where i got to see a selection of his work that he had produced over the last twenty years.Where he showed that he got to work behind the scenes with the Foo fighters and Red hot chilli peppers documenting the on goings of what happens on and off stage. He had worked for kerrang magazine and he left that in 2005. The way that he had shown his work, he just had them in simple black wooden frames on a white background. The size of the images varied and he was selling a3 for £100,a2 for £150 and a1 for £220.When he said that he learnt to blend into the background of situation and how when he was working instead of enjoying the gig that he was photographing he would rather just go into work mode and get the shots he wanted. Also made a good point that your not there to hang with the band, your there to do the job and just to document the band.

Final images for family assignment.

FAMILY ASSIGNMENT.

These images are some that i have took during my family shoot.

favourite five images.

FINAL IMAGE:

I took the word  family for the meaning that is by who I basically live with my mum and dad and even though my brother has moved out I still count him as family, I see him just as often as I normally would if he was still living at home. But my other meaning of the word family, if this assignment was longer would be that I would class the group of friends that I hang out with outside of college as a family in a way, family doesn’t have to mean just who you live with or the blood that connects you to them it could be just more then what it seems. For my images that I took for my family assignment I say I was more inspired by the images that I came across of old photographs of my family, so I did my own version on them on my slr in a modern day setting. My idea was to basically take a family portrait of who I lived with basically, but some of portraits of them on their own I prefer over the group shots that I took of them. I feel my end outcome was good overall in the end, I like how timeless the black and white makes it look and how some of the shots look noisy and making it look like it wasn’t shot on a slr camera. I like how some of the shots they were funny, and not like my family were taking my pictures seriously, it shows the fun side of my family. The final image i choose was of my dad,i think the photograph was a interesting one to choose from because its not just the normal family portrait its just my dad been silly like he normal is.

Inspired by my old photographs of my family.

Family Assignment Research.

Richard Billingham

I personally thought Richard’s photographs was just a quite honest representation of his life, brought to life threw images instead of just using words to tell what happens in his day to day life. I got inspired by his work as because back in the day I remember my parents were taking pictures with disposable cameras instead of what people can get getting their hands on today like the latest slr that many people can do today or a good compact camera. I like the feel and look of his images which I want to try and do in my own body of work, I could easy do a set of images of my family (which would boast my portfolio of work up), taken a disposable or shoot on film or edited on Photoshop to look similar, also I could shoot it so my image is noisy.

Alex Turner - Inspiration.

Alex turner, is from a famous british music called the arctic monkeys.Their personally of my favourite bands around at the moment. As iam quite interested in music photography, and i would love in the future to take photographs of some bands and while been able to enjoy seeing them live at the same time, it would be the perfect job for me.It would the best idea as it would combine my passion for music and photography together.  I think the lyrics are quite clever and some have quite meaning to me or bring back a memory to me.The top photograph is well composed, also the shallow depth of field in the photograph draws you in to him, which is a good thing as he is the front guy of the arctic monkeys and he should stand out as he is the lead singer of the band. The background is quite dark which makes leads you eye more at him, also the photograph has nice tones but there not so in your face but give it a good effect. The top image works well because its not just a full shot of all his body or of him on stage, it works better because most of the other photographers would might just take the safe shot instead him framed him with the main part you would want to see which is him and the guitar. The second photograph its took in black and white which i personally shooting in black and white, it looks like it has been shot on film because it looks all grainy, you can tell this by looking at the image straight away. I think that the shot would be easier enough to do something similar with a drummer and a guitarist. Also when i look at pictures of bands at festivals, gigs, press photographs, magazine covers, album covers it makes me just wanna to go out and take photographs of local bands, and gigs of theirs to start building up a portfolio up and aiming to get a professional level and one day maybe be able to achieve a high standard enough to be able to take photographs of big bands in the uk.

Summer Assignment 2012.

This photograph its quite ironic because the sign says sunset strip and its covered in mud and its gloomy and dark, rather then it been all covered in green grass and it been sunny weather, like how it was back when I first arrived in Scotland. You get the sense from the picture that its quite a tuff in environment to be in, but people are still making the effect to travel threw the mud and who knows what else was in the mud just to see their favourite bands. The picture could be improved by it been taking on a slr instead of it been a disposable and  I could of got lower and taken it from a different angle.

I choose these three images for my final ones, because I feel it best describes the atmosphere of a good British summer festival, minus the actual sun. Also it sums up what an amazing summer I have had and plus this was my first ever festival. I felt they were quite striking as it captured the crazy Scottish crowd in action and also one with the smoke flares in his hands. I love the tone of colours that was brought on threw the image which gives it a nice feel for the picture and just makes me want to be back there at the stone roses set. I believe if it was better quality it would been an even better action shot, but I quite like how it’s not quite perfect looking, it gives a bit of different edge. But I don’t think I would have captured this if I was in a different position in the crowd that night, but I might have had a better shot or angle if I was closer to where he did it or if I was on someone’s shoulders.

Photographers from Staffordshire University.

MARK HEDLEY PHOTOGRAPHY.

I thought that Mark Hedley's photography was quite interesting,i personally liked his documentary styled body of work where it was more about haunting side of things. I would love to try and take some more documentary shots, where i would choose a subject then just do a whole body of work of it, giving me a more range of work in my portfolio.Personally i love this four shots and how he captured the essence of the dog jumping over the fence, and how its got a firm grip of what he seems to of caught. My favourite photography out of the four would be the top right one, because i love that there's more focus on the dog and its captured just as its in mid jump, its quite a strong image. Also though i like the bottom left photograph as well because i love how the ears are out big , like the dog is alert and ready to protect its prize that the dog has captured.Another thing i love about his work it that the background is quite dark but the light is focused on the dog.

ROB HARRISSON.

I have a quite a passion for music photography that's the reason i liked Rob Harrison's work he had done,i'd love to be able to take good quality images of some famous musicians like he has done.

End of Year Exhibition NULC.

I loved her dress, it was quite cute and it had small little details on which i also quite liked.

SARAH 0LEKSIK.

I loved how her work was quite dark, and mysterious looking, its kinda a grungy look which i love the style of.Also i love the way she either used a wide angle lens or a fish eye one for the effect on one image.

CHELSEA EGAN-CLEWS

I personally loved her work and that it was quite cute, and i loved the way that she displayed her work it was well put together. Also i thought  it was good how she put the frames on the wall over the picture on the wall,so it looks like they were meant to be like that.

MINA TEZGEL

For the dress that she made she used wire, and different kind of materials i like the way she used them on the dress. The artist that made the dress the way she took the photographs of her model, they were done to a high standard and also i love how she set how her work and how there were different things to look at instead of it just been the dress.

LEAH CHEYENNE BRANDO

I loved how it was quite dark and creepy looking and how it was done really well with alot of detail put it to it.

RYAN JAMES THORLEY

I liked the way it was quite dark and disturbing in a way, as the person or thing that he had drawn had a mask on it, it reminded me of a character from a halloween film.

MICHAEL DAVID BAKER

I personally love his work michael david baker work alot, and i love he presented his work.It reminded me of what coldplay did in one of their music videos '' every teardrop is a waterfall '' and how colourful his work it and i love the framed one in the middle.

AMY WAIN

I liked how she set up her things and its quite quirky looking, it was very pleasing to the eye and it makes you want to see more of her work.I also love the patterns that she has used threw out her work.

SIAN MELLOR

Sian Mellor's work was quite colourful and bright And its the kinda of pillows that you would see in shops, and places like ''ikea'' , i tend to buy pillows like this anyway.
